EVALUATIONS/SCREENING

A speech and language evaluation/screener is a form of assessment that helps determine the strengths and weaknesses of a child's communication skills. During the evaluation, Marie will typically ask the caregiver(s) and child to engage in various activities, such as playing with toys, reading books, or having a conversation. She'll be observing the child's communication skills, including their ability to speak, understand language, and use language effectively. This process will help identify any potential areas of difficulty or delay, and provide a clear understanding of what your child needs to work on to improve their communication skills.

As a caregiver, you might be wondering what speech therapy looks like for your child. The truth is every child is unique and speech therapy is tailored to meet their individual needs and goals. In a typical session, your child will work with Marie, who will use a variety of fun and engaging activities to help them achieve their goals. This might include playing with their favorite toys or games, introducing them to new activities and materials, or even incorporating family members into the session. The goal is to make the therapy process as enjoyable and natural as possible, so that your child feels comfortable and motivated to learn and grow. For example, your child might work on articulation skills while building with blocks or practice following directions during a game of Simon Says. The possibilities are endless and Marie will work closely with you to create a customized plan that meets your child's specific needs and learning style. By the end of the session, your child will have had a blast while making progress toward their goals - and you'll be able to see the positive impact on their communication skills!
